Why I started Soapy Mama.

I grew up in a kampong house where my mother washed everything by hand. Six kids, one ironing board, one stubborn streak. Nothing left her line stained. Nothing left her line crumpled.

When I moved to Tiong Bahru in 2014, I noticed laundromats had become impersonal - drop-off counters, conveyor belts, no eye contact. So I rented a tiny shopfront, bought one industrial machine, and put a sign on the door: "We pamper. You unwind."

Today we have 16 staff, seven outlets, and over 1,400 Google reviews that still make me a little teary. But the rule hasn't changed. We sort by hand. We check every pocket. We remember that behind every garment is someone who needs it back, clean and ready, by Tuesday morning.

That's not a service. That's family.
